  • This card was the Make 'n Take at our last team meeting. Lisa brought this adorable Mother's Day card that features punch art tulips.

    IMG_1603

The petals of the tulips were created using the wing from the Extra Large Two Step Bird Punch. And the stems and leaves come from that same punch. Here's a closer look at the flowers…

  • The flowers I'm sharing today were my swap for the meeting. We usually swap cards or small candy ideas but I though it would be fun to swap something that went along with my Fabric Crafting presentation I made at the meeting.

I made two different flowers and let everyone choose which flower was more their style

The first flower is another wool flower – this time I used hand dyed wool which gave the flower a multi-tone look.

    IMG_1461

and a closer look at one of the flowers…

    IMG_1464

These flowers use the same Circle #2 die I used on the Lollipop Flowers. Each petal is a layer of the three smaller circl sizes folded up, tacked together with a needle and thread. Then each petal was hot glued onto a circle. I added a Clear Button decorated with Designer Series Paper into the center, leaves for the back, and finished it off with a pin. Just like I did in the Lollipop Flower pins.

For Directions on creating the Button I used in the center of the flower view this post.

Also Check out the Tutorial I created that includes this flower and many others Click Here.

The other flower option also used the circles but it's a VERY different look

    IMG_1483

Don't you think these would look GREAT clipped onto a Bridal Shower or Wedding favor? Or maybe hair clip party favors at a Little Princess Birthday.

To create these flowers you want to use a synthetic fabric (something that will melt – I know you're all cringing but stay with me here)

    1. Die cut 4-8 of each size circle from the Circle #2 die. You can cut up to 8 layers at once with the Big Shot so this goes really fast.
    2. Choose a Rhinestone brad and push it through the center of each circle one layer at a time. Start with your smallest circles and work out to the biggest.
    3. When all the circles are on the brad spread the legs of the brad open in the back to hold everything in place.
    4. Now take your Heat Tool (The Embossing Gun you use with your embossing powders) and start heating the fabric working from the center out around the whole cirlce. The fabric will start curling and melting. You can melt a little or a lot. It takes a little practice to get things just the way you like but every flower is different and unique.
    5. Finish off the flower by sewing or gluing a pin or clip onto the back of the flower.

I know you would all LOVE to be a part of my fabulous Create, Ink! Stampin' Up! team and get fun swaps like this and I would LOVE to have you be a part of my stamping family. There is a great promotion on the Starter kit running during Sale-a-bration which is ending on March 31st if you would like more info click here or e-mail me.

  • I'm back with another fun fabric project that I shared at my last team meeting. Fabric flowers are a very trendy accessory right now. If you look in the clothing magazines and stores you'll see fun flowers everywhere. Pin them to your clothes, clip them to a bag, where them in your hair, even decorate with them at home! And I've seen some pretty big price tags on the flowers in the stores!! Making them on my own makes my budget MUCH happier…

    IMG_1473

I didn't even have to get out a needle and thread to create theme flowers. They're hot glued! Both of these flowers were made with from wool but you could use fabric to get that oh so popular chabby chic raggy look or you could use fleece or felt for another look. They're super fast and fun. Here are the instructions for both flowers…

    Lollipop Flower
(this is the one that's all circles it reminds me of a poppy and Lollipop flower sounds like a great name so that's what I'm calling it!!)

    1. Use the Circles #2 die to cut one of each size circle from the fabric of your choice.
    2. Cut a second circle of just the largest size circle on the die and set it aside for later.
    3. Stack the four circles together in a catty whompus type fashion. (For those of you who don't know that's Julie speak for off center and uneven) 🙂
    4. When you're happy with the how your flower looks use a Hot Glue to attach the layers of flowers to each other. Just use a small dot of glue in the center of each circle. You don't want people to easily see that it's glued together. That's our secret!!
    5. Use Hot Glue to attach a button to the center of the flower. The buttons in the Playground, Sherbet or Button Latte assortments make great flower centers.
    6. Next use the Table Setting Bigz XL die to cut two leaved from Green Fabric.
    7. Attach the leaves to the back of the flower using hot glue.
    8. Next cut two small slits in the center of the extra circle you cut and feed a pin through the slits. Close the pin and then hot glue the pin and the circle to the back of your flower. This gives it a nice finished look on the back.

    Rosette Flower

    1. Use the Table Setting die to cut a spiral circle and two leaves from the fabrics of your choice.
    2. Starting in the center of your spiral cut circle, roll the fabric into a flower.
    3. Put a small amount of hot glue on the end of the spiral circle and press it to the side of the flower and wrap slightly around to the back of the flower. Be careful doing this, don't burn your fingers – you may find it helpful to use a pin or extra set of hands to help you hold the flower while your working with the hot glue.
    4. Once the hot glue sets up you can very gently press up from the back side to give your flower a little dimension. Don't press too hard though you can pop the flower apart completely and you'll have to start over!
    5. Use hot glue to attach the two petals to the back of your flower.
    6. Squeeze a generous amount of hot glue into the center back of the flower to fill the dented area in and help hold everything together.
    7. Let the glue set up – this might take a while that glue is hot and it's thick.
    8. Next add a small amount of hot glue to the back of the flower again and attach a pin or clip to the flower. (Note: If you wanted you could attach a small fabric circle to the back like we did in the first flower that you feed your pin or clip through. This will give you a more finished look on the back of this flower as well)

I'm working on putting together a hands on class for these flowers. Keep watching my blog, if I fit the class into my schedule I'll be posting about it here!

ETA: Many of you have asked about there I find my wool. I get it at a local shop – you can check out some of their fabulous bright colors available online here: Wool Gatherings.

  • I just had my Stamp 'n Share Team Meeting for my Create, Ink! girls this past Friday. My assignment (that I gave myself) 🙂 was to share some fabric crafting ideas with my team members. I wanted to give them some ideas for tools they can use in their business and also just some fun projects they can share! So I promise you I've got some fun paper crafting projects coming your way soon – but for all your fabric crafters out there, I'll be sharing some of the fun ideas I shared at the meeting with you over the next few days.

If you Love to applique – using the big shot will make quick work of cutting out intricate fabric shapes up to 8 layers at a time! If you're new to applique the Stampin' Up! Big Shot way is a great way to get started! I created this quilt square to show off how you can use the big shot to cut applique pieces and attach them to a quilt for a fun shabby chic look. I choose the little quilt squares because they're much smaller and easier to take to a workshop than a whole quilt – but can't you just imagine how fabulous a quilt would look if you appliqued each square with these flowers??

    IMG_1449

The petals for this flower were created by die cutting the fabric with the 5 Point 3D Star Bigz Die. There are score marks on this die so it's best to only cut two layers of fabric at a time instead of the normal eight layers of fabric you can usually cut with the Big Shot. But even cutting two layers at a time this went together SUPER quick.

The scallop circles in the center were cut using the Scallop Circles #2 Bigz die.

Because I wanted a raggy shabby look to the applique I used a big seam allowance around the shapes and did not use anything to attach the petals to the block before I sewed them in place. Of course if you wanted a cleaner look you could attach fusible webbing to your fabric before you die cut it then you could iron the petals into place and use a much smaller seam allowance around your shapes. This would give you much cleaner lines.

I got this idea from a project Stampin' Up! shared with us at Leadership and online. Here is the Quilt Square they created. They're using the same dies and putting it together differently to get a completely different flower.
