• I found a great article about productive scrapbooking that I wanted to share with all of you. I think it's VERY timley for National Scrapbook Month!!

    BabySBP by Monna Ellithorpe

Your scrapbooking layouts can make all the difference in how your pages look. The key is to have many scrapbook sketches available already there for you to choose from and to help you get over those times when your own creative ideas are at a standstill.

Your pages do not have to be perfect by any means and sometimes you will produce a page that no matter what you do, you are just not happy with it. Don't stress over it, just put it in your scrapbook and move on.
Remember scrapbooking is supposed to be fun, so don't make it into a chore just to get it done.

When you do find a sketch or layout that you like, experiment with it. Make your page about just one picture; add more pictures or less pictures; move them around; put the pictures on an angle; line them up and down or across. Walk away from it for a while and come back later with a fresh outlook and then just make the page and start another one.

I have discovered in my own scrapbooking sessions that if I have a sketch to go by, the hard part is already done. All you need to do is embellish with ribbons, buttons, lettering, stickers, glitter or what ever kind of embellishments you like the most. Cutting your mats and pictures with decorative scissors or if you have cutters with different cutting edges always adds a nice touch to your pages; experiment with different cutting edges.

A very important part of scrapbooking is "do not forget the journal box on your pages." In the future when family and friends look at your creative scrapbooking efforts they will want to know what was happening at the time, who is in the picture and where they were. This will keep the interest of any one viewing your scrapbook pages. It is such a disappointment when looking at a scrapbook full of pictures and you have no idea of who the people are in the pictures; no dates; no notes; nothing. Journal on every page even if you cannot remember the details, put as much information in your journal block as you can.

If you have quite a few pictures of one outing, a birthday party or some other event, it is always a plus and if you have the room to lay out many sheets of cardstock and just start laying your pictures out on each piece of cardstock as you go along. I have used this technique quite a few times and have been able to produce up to 10 pages in one session in my scrapbooking room. Believe me it is a great feeling to get so much accomplished at one time.

Below are some suggestions to help make better use of your time with your hobby:

    1. Gather all of your pictures together from a single event.

    2. If you have the room, lay out many sheets of cardstock and lay the
pictures on the cardstock at random.

    3. Have sketches available to use as a guide.

    4. Gather your embellishments that you plan to use; maybe you have a theme or just plan to use whatever appeals to you at the time.

    5. Decide if you are going to cut your mats and photos with a straight edge or with a decorative edge.

    6. Do not forget to make a journal box for each of your pages.

    7. Don't worry if you are not able to finish your pages at one time. At least you have a start and the next time you have a few minutes a good portion of the decision making has already been done.

    8. Last and most important, have fun and remember the event as you work on your pages.

Always remember enjoy your hobby and don't feel as if it is another job.

  • I'm back with the second post about Friday's Punch Art Class. As many of you know this class was scheduled to go late into the night, so we decided it would be fun to make the class a PJ party. Everyone had the option of showing up in their PJs (or changing there). Let me tell you, it was great to get home and basically be ready to roll into bed! To add in even more PJ fun we came up with 5 categories before the class and awarded Prizes for the PJs that fit best into our categories!

    PrizeWinners

    The Winners For Each Category

Showing Off SU Spirit: Marcy (I'll give you a closer look at her stamped shirt)
Really Ready for Bed: Kathy in her Really Red STL Cardinals PJs
Ready to Celebrate Mother's Day: Vickie in pretty blue PJs with spring flowers
Showing off Their Inner Animal: Neta in Purple Butterflies
and our one non-PJ category Traveled the farthest to get here: Mary Beth who drove up from Oklahoma City Friday morning to join us for the class!!

Ok so my FAVORITE of the whole evening had to be Marcy in her Stamped Shirt

    LoadsOfFunMarcy

Marcy Ironed on a Stampin' Up! logo and added "Loads of Fun" below it. Then she stamped the Truck from Loads of Love all over her shirt along with some super cute tire tracks. She finished it off by coloring it in with great spring colors!

What were the prizes for our PJ contest? Remember all those punches I took pictures of the other day – They were for the centerpieces we put on each table for the class. Flower Pots full of Punched Flowers. Everyone who won get to choose a flower pot to take home. Here's a look at the post lined up waiting to go out on the tables…

Of course all of the teachers wanted their own flowers in a pot! So we're going to make them as our make and take at Monday's Meeting.

Do you want to find out what it's like to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator? You can come join us at our meeting Monday Night – take home one of these flower pots for yourself – and find out about the FABULOUS $75.00 Scrapbooking Starter Kit Special going on this month. Just send me an e-mail and let me know you want to come to our Meeting!

  • WOW! I had a GREAT time Fridaynight with everyone at our very first Punch Art PJ Party! I know I say it all the time but I just love seeing everyone at our big team classes. Don't get me wrong – it's tons of fun to get together in smaller groups to stamp and I really treasure the more individual time I get to spend with everyone at a smaller get together but there is just nothing like the energy that exist in a room full of craftin galz!

It was a busy night of punching out shapes and creating animals - I put together a few of my favorite pictures from the evening so you can all have a peek at the fun we had!

    ClassPixCollage

Doesn't it look like everyone was having fun?

As usual we had a bunch of Prizes for the evening! This time Debbie and Dawn were in charge of creating some great items for our prize table, and they really went all out. A look at just a few of the fun items we gave away at the class.

First Up – Minnie and Mickey Mouse Jumbo Paper Clip Punches created with what else? SU Punches!

    IMG_9581

Next Up – The Theme of the evening was Animals. Everyone took home a book full of Punch Art Animals but the lucky winners of these prizes got to take home a cute Barn Box full of a few more ideas for their books.
-A Smaller Version of the Monkey we made is a GREAT example of how you can change the sizes on the animals by changing up the punches you use.
    -A Bear
-A different option for creating a quick and easy Elephant
    -A Zebra

I'm so jealous – This was one of my favorite prizes of the evening – I'm so jealous of the winners!! I've got to sit down next week and re-create some of these fun guys to add to my book!

    BarnYardAnimals

Our Grand Prizes for the evening were three of these Punch Pal books. Each book is filled with laminated reference cards for all of the Stampin' Up! punches. This is a great tool; when you're looking to punch out a stamped image you can hold up the reference cards over the image and find just the right punch to use!

    IMG_9579

Last, but not least – We wanted everyone to go home with a small prize, so everyone received a Penguin Nugget Holder. One last Chocolate pick me up as we sent everyone home – it was a late night!

  • Remember the Silverware Caddy's I posted about using for my Grandma's Colored Pencils a few days ago?

I have received a TON of request about where to find the caddy. Well I found them in a little "Bargain Shop" locally but I did a little online hunting and found them on Amazon – and they're cheaper then I found mine for. I updated the original post with the information and I'm posting it here for everyone who is looking for Colored Pencil Caddies for themselves.

  • Last fall my friends Shannda and Eric got married – They are just so sweet together, a FABULOUS couple and I'm so happy for them. I had a LOT of fun helping Shannda with her programs and favors but I was too busy to blog and didn't get a chance to share with everyone. I'll take some pictures of the program I designed for her, and put them up online for you all to see, but  while you're waiting, I DID remember to snap a quick picture of the wedding present I made for them.

I found a wooden floating frame out shopping one day and I snatched it up because I just knew I would come up with something fun to do with it. It turned out to be the perfect item for Shannda (And Eric too but let's be honest It's all about the Bride isn't it?).

    IMG_9217

Shannda's colors for her Wedding were Rose and Green so I started with a Piece of Kiwi Kissfrom the Bella Rose DSP (Designer Series Paper). I cut it down to size so there was still a nice border of glass showing in the floating frame. Then I cut out some roses from another piece of Bella Rose DSP to hold their picture in place. I added the "Always" rub-on from Chateau Bella rub-ons next to the photo.

Next I attached some pieces from the Flourishes vinyl Decor Elements to the front piece of glass randomly. I put everything together and attached some ribbon to the top.

Sorry the picture is a little hard to see – I snapped this very quickly on the chair before I wrapped the gift up. You can't see the ribbon in the picture, it kinda fell behind the frame – you can see it showing a little through the top glass. I'm happy I though to snap a quick picture so I could share it with everyone. I with thrilled with how it turned out.

If you would like more information about decorating items for your home with Decor Elements E-mail me.

  • I've been hard at work getting Grandma's stamping space into order. It makes it so much easier to play when your toys are easy to find! One of Grandma's favorite tools is her colored pencils. She LOTS to stamp color in images and use markers, pencils, chalks, and pens to color them in. The other ladies who live in her community are always picking up pencils for her when they find them cheap or at a garage sale so she has a LOT of them! They were in a drawer but hard to get out and easily use. I found these GREAT silverware caddy's for just $6.00 each and we bought her 4 of them. Now they are lined up on the ledge of the window into her craft room from the kitchen, easy to pick up and move to the table when she's ready to color.

    IMG_9452

Doesn't that make you want to do some coloring??

Do you have any fun stamp room organization tips? Post a comment and let us know what you did to make your space work for you…

    UPDATE:

If you're looking for a Silverware Caddy of your own you can find them here

  • I've been busy this week getting ready for the Punch Art Class coming up on May 8th. Over the weekend Lisa came over and we were working on the center pieces for the tables at the class. What do you decorate tables with at a Punch Art Class?? Punched Paper Flowers of course! You'll have to wait a bit to see the finished product – but take a peek at how pretty the punchies look all piled up on my table…

    IMG_9431

    IMG_9436

Yep that's 584 punchies – Punched, Sponged, and some of the textured. The finished little post look SO cute! I'll show you them after the class – so stay tuned!

So why am I keeping track of how many punches I have done?? We wanted to give everyone at the class time to concentrate on putting their animals together so we're pre-punching all the simple punched items ahead of time! It's a LOT of punching but it goes so fast!! I though it would be fun to keep track of a "Punched Count" just to see how many little punchies I have made up in the end…

If you want to keep up with my punch totals you can Follow me on Twitter. I'll Update my punch count as I go along getting ready for the class!

  • I am finally back with an blog post!! I know you all though I disappeared - I'm been SO busy taking care of family and I had to give up something - blogging got the boot!! But things are starting to settle down and hopefully I'll be able to share more projects with you online from now on!! Grandma is starting to need less of our time and that means more time for taking pictures and posting online! 🙂

Our team meeting was earlier this month and I was behind on swap cards. I still had to make a "Bird Card" for everyone from out March Meeting. I have been seeing these SUPER CUTE Chickie cards all over and decided that was the perfect "Bird Card" I know it's after Easter but how cute would this be as a Welcome Spring or Baby card?

    IMG_9443

This card is made using the Scallop Circle BigZ Die and several SU Punches. I have two of the scallop circles layered together and tied with the ribbon at the top to create the card.

Many of you will remember the Santa Ornament Card I sent out last Christmas that used the same Die folded in half to create the card…

    IMG_9445

You can see all the Fabulous dies available from Stampin' Up! in my online store, go take a look!
