  • Hi Stampers,

I'm excited to announce that in addition to being a Guest Designer for Create with Connie and Mary Occasions Edition I'm also joining their Thursday Challenge Design Team. That means every Thursday I'll be bringing you cards inspired by their Sketch and Color Challenges! I love sketches and color challenges. It really helps when you're creating a card. There is nothing worse than staring at a blank page 🙂 …. with a challenge at least you have a direction to go…

This week's challenge was a Sketch Challenge. I created this Sending Kisses Card…

    IMG_5491

…based on the sketch to the right. A simple sketch with a fun twist. I really liked the offset 2012 Create Challenges-004layers with the rounded corners.  I wanted to keep this card simple like the sketch so I added random heart stamped tone on tone to the Pink Pirouette layer and embossed hearts to the Very Vanilla layer! You'll want to be sure to visit the Create with Connie and Mary website to get more inspiration from the other designers!

While you are there, you can also sign up for the Create Occasions Edition going on right now! I hope you're inspired to play along with us this week! We love to see what you come up with!

  • Hi Stampers,

Every year for Christmas my Mom makes up her Christmas Bread (Date Nut Bread)… This year we decided to add a few other flavors to the mix so there was something for everyone! (Ok I know you're saying – it's WAY past Christmas!! But I had to share this idea with you – it's a fun way to give Little Breads year round!)

    IMG_5274

We always struggle with how to wrap the breads so getting the gift is fun, but still showing off the pretty breads! I LOVE what we came up with this year. I simply took natural color Coffee Filters, stacked several of them together, and then tied a ribbon or length of fabric around the middle of the breads to hold everything together

I used My Digital Studio to make Tags for the breads so we could identify the flavors. It's so easy to make tage using MDS. The Digi Punches are sized to match the actual SU Punches so I just design what I want. Print them out on Whisper White card stock and then use the coorisponding Paper punch to punch the tags out.

       Q&A

Q: I have a friend who would like to start stamping with me and I’d like to give her a gift to get her started. What are the best things for a beginner stamper to have?

A: Sharing the fun of stamping with a friend is one of the things that Stampin’ Up! is all about. There is nothing like the joy of seeing the sense of accomplishment and joy that a new stamper feels when she first discovers the art of stamping. What a great thing for you to experience with your friend! Some of the basic supplies a new stamper needs are stamps, ink, card stock, and tools.

    Stamps
As much as we may want it all, we have to start somewhere! For new stampers, I suggest a versatile set, like the Easy Events (#116958 wood-mount, #123225 clear-mount) stamp set. It includes images and greetings for a variety of occasions. Plus, the Easy Events stamp set is ideal for your friend to test out simple techniques like coloring, or stepped-up techniques like watercoloring. Easy Events Stamp Set Project

    Ink
New stampers don’t need the full spectrum of colors in order to get started. A couple of ink pads in versatile colors or favorite colors are a great place to start. One of the ink pads I recommend most is Jet Black StazOn (#101406). The quick-drying, permanent black ink is versatile for many images and perfect for a variety of techniques that new stampers will want to try. Another great ink pad to consider is the VersaMark pad (#102283). Since VersaMark is a clear ink, it creates a slightly darker watermark-type effect when stamped on most any color of card stock. A Color Collection of Stampin’ Spots is another budget-friendly option for beginning stampers who like a lot of color options. Each Stampin' Spot Color Collection includes anywhere from 8 to 11 ink pads that are 1” square in size.

    Card Stock
Not all paper is created equal! Most of us have learned by trial and error that there is a difference. Help your new stamping friend avoid the frustration and expense of poor-quality card stock. She’ll appreciate the crisp images she can achieve with our ultra-smooth Whisper White (#100730) or Very Vanilla (#101650) card stock. Pair the Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock with an assorted pack of card stock from one of the Color Collections and the Neutrals Collection, and your friend will have the basis for many beautiful creations!

    Tools
It seems obvious, but it is important not to forget the basics like a Paper Cutter (#104152) and a SNAIL adhesive (#104332) along with a couple of refills (#104331). Once you have those basics, consider fun and functional tools like our great punches. A couple of circles that can be layered together are a great place to start because circles are a very pleasing and versatile shape that you can't cut by hand without making yourself crazy! (You know what I mean if you’ve tried it!)

    Got to have it all?!
Do you know the best-kept secret deal in the Stampin’ Up! catalog? It’s the Starter Kit. Yep – with stamps, ink, card stock, and basic tools, the Starter Kit is valued at $345, but only costs $175, making it a steal-of-a-deal and an ideal way for new stampers to get all the basics in one affordable bundle. Plus, when new stampers join Stampin’ Up!, they’ll have a whole host of great online resources, including an amazing online community of demonstrators for training, ideas, and support. Talk about having it all! Contact me today to find out more about the Starter Kit, including the limited-time extras and discounts available only to new team members who join during Sale-A-Bration!

  • Hi Stampers, When I first saw the Gnome Sweet Gnome stamp set I wasn't really inspired to create… I like Gnomes – but the set wasn't sparking any card ideas in my head…. The I happened to catch Gnomeo & Juliet on TV the other day and suddenly I had card ideas in my head 🙂

My Gnomeo is a Red and a Blue – A nice happily ever after…

Gnome Sweet Gnome Stamp Set (Clear Mount: 126537 or Wood Mount: 126535)

    Gnomecard

This year – one of my goals is to get one of my projects into the pages of a crafting magazine. So I originally created this card for a Sketch Challenge Call for Submission…

    Basic Directions

    1. Fold card stock to create a card.
    2. Use Post It Notes to mask a piece of Designer Series paper, creating light rays. Sponge ink onto the paper and remove your mask.
    3. Randomly stamp the grass image onto card stock. Attach the sponged paper to the right of the card stock.
    4. Use cut both edges of a narrow strip of card stock using the Adorning Accents Die. Attach to card stock.
    5. Wrap Ribbon around card stock tying a knot in the front. Mount the card stock onto a White square of card stock and then onto the card front.
    6. Stamp the Gnome image. Color with Stampin’ Write Markers. Punch out using the Circle punch and attach to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
    7. Stamp greeting. Cut into a thin banner, trimming “v”s into each end.
    8. Use a Dimensional in the center of the banner and attach to card pressing ends down to get a wavy look to the banner.

Stamp Set: Gnome Sweet Gnome, Bordering on Romance

Ink: Lucky Limeade, Jet Black StazOn, Stampin’ Write Markers

Card stock: Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Lucky Limeade

Paper: Daffodil Delight Patterns Designer Series Paper

Dies & Punches: 2-1/2” Circle Punch, Adorning Accents Edgelits Die

Accessories: Stampin Diminsionals, Sponge Dauber, Marina Mist 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon
