• Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This time we had a color challenge…

    IMG_5796

The Colors for this Challenge are Peach Parfait, Night of Navy, and Sahara Sand. The first though I had with these colors was to do a mascaline ca 2012 Create Challenges-016_1rd…. But then I got to thinking it would be fun to do a softer card with a femine look using them!

I used the Vintage Vogue stamp set to create a printed background on the card and then stamps some of the flowers from the set on Whisper White, cut them out, and poped them up off the background.

A Decorative trim, some ribbon and a button finished the card off.

And of course a little greeting banner, one of my favorite ways to add smaller greetings to cards! I LOVE the greeting with this set – You Raise Kindness to and Art. The perfect greeting for a Thank You Note or even just a for my friend card.

  • Who is helping to give out half a million free books all across America on one day?

    I am.

WBN_2012_webgraphic_011812Tonight is the first United States World Book Night. World Book Night U.S. is an ambitious campaign to personally give out thousands of free, specially printed books across America. Volunteer book lovers like myself are helping to promote reading by going into our communities and handing out free copies of books we love to new or light readers.

Thirty different book titles were chosen to be a part of WBN and when I put in my application I was able to choose my top 3 pick for the book I would be giving away! The book I get to give away is Q is for Quarry by Sue Grafton. I LOVE mystery books and the Alphabet books are some of my favorite so I was super excited to get to share this book! Qisforquarrycover1

If you have not read the book already here's a little synapsis from the publisher:

She was a "Jane Doe," an unidentified white female whose decomposed body was discovered near a quarry off California's Highway 1. Despite months of investigation by police, her case and identity remained unsolved.

That was eighteen years ago. Now the two men who found the body, both nearing the end of long careers in law enforcement, want one last shot at the case and they turn to Kinsey Millhone to help. But revisiting the past can be a dangerous business, and what begins with the pursuit of Jane Doe's real identity ends in a high-risk hunt for her killer.

I picked up my books earlier this week at Barnes and Noble and of course I had to dress up the books a little with a handmade bookmark! I decided that I would make my Bungee bookmarks – my favorite bookmark to use when I'm reading!

    IMG_5774

The books are all finished, complete with a little note inside from me and ready to be handed out tonight!

I used the Daisies Die to die cut Pool Party card stock and create flowers to decorate the bungee bookmark. The color complimented the cover of Q for Quarry perfectly!!

Here's a close up of the flower on the bookmark.

I am so honored to be a part of the first World Book Night in the U.S., following the impressive launch of this campaign in the UK and Ireland last year. Did anyone else out there participate in World Book Night?? Were you given one of the WBN books? I would LOVE to hear what you though of the book you received!!

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week we were given a sketch to inspire our creations…

    IMG_5748

I took a very literal translation of the sketch this time – I loved the sketch – everything on it 2012 Create Challenges-016seemed just right! I wanted to use my Hostess Exclusive DSP Cheerful Treat one more time before it retired. I LOVED this paper. The color combo is always so pretty. For this card I focused on the Pink Pirouette and Melon Mambo combo but added a touch of the Lucky Limeade and Concord Crush as well! For someone who LOVES purple it took me a really long time to warm up to Concord Crush – but now I use it ALL the time and I'll miss seeing new DSPs come out featuring this color – but I'm super excited to see what the new In Colors for 2012 will be!!

  • Hi Stampers,

I have to take a little non-stamping moment on my blog to share our new additions with you…

As many of you know we lost our Kitty Sarah back in February – she was a month shy of 21 … so quite an old lady who lived a nice long kitty life but we’ve been missing the fun of cats in our house.. So last week we added two cuties to our family…

    IMG_5717

They were being a little wild in here πŸ™‚ but I did manage to get a quick picture of each of them actually looking like calm well behaved babies..

This is our pretty boy – Close to Cocoa (we just call him Cocoa)

    IMG_5722

It’s hard to tell from this picture but he has a lot of light brown tones in his fur – and seems to be getting more brown every day. When we were trying to come up with a name I was trying to describe his colors and I said he’s not really Black or Gray – he’s kinda chocolate … so of course the SU demo in me immediatly said “Hey he’s Close to Cocoa!”

And this is our Sweet Girl – Very Vanilla (we call her Nilla like the waffers) πŸ™‚

    IMG_5713

We decided to keep the SU Colors name thing going .. and all the pretty white fur on our girl is not really white but more of a cream or vanilla color so it fit perfectly!! So we have our Cocoa and Vanilla..

Thanks for letting me share my babies with you – I’ll be back to stamping on my next post … but I just may sneak in some more kitty photos now and then! πŸ™‚

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This time we had a color challenge…

    IMG_5729

The Colors for this Challenge, Concord Crush, Marina Mist, and Certainly Celery were right up my ally. I love purple and blue color combos!!   2012 Create Challenges-015

I decided to create an Easel card for this challenge so the card could be displayed easily! I used the sneak peek stamp set Bright Blossoms. I though it would be fun to have a table with a row of vases on it so I cut a thin strip of Early Espresso card stock for the table. Then I cut a small section off a Labels Collection Embosslit image and placed it on the table to create a table cloth. I love the way the flowers look lined up on the table and I think this color combo does a great job of creating a fancy elegant look for the card even though I was using a stamp set with a more fun and funky look!

  • Fancy Framelits Folds

       Q&A

Q: I’ve seen some cards with fancy folds made using the Labels Framelits. How do you do that?

    Fancy Framelits Fold

A: The new Hearts and Labels Framelits Dies for the Big Shot have been a huge hit! There are so many great ways to use them, besides the obvious layered frames. You can use them to cut edges of cards into shapes, make window cards, make cards with fancy folds, and so much more! One of my favorite fancy folds cards is a Z-fold card. It’s extra fun because of a cut with the Label Framelits that makes the main image flip to the inside when you open the card!

Here’s how you can make this fun Z-Fold Flip card:

    Fancy Framelits Folds

Step 1: Cut a piece of 8-1/2” card stock in half to get a 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” card body. Score at 4-1/4” along the 8-1/2” side to create the folded card. Next fold the front of the card in half. You can do this by folding the edge of the card back towards the fold of the card or by scoring first at 2-1/8” and then folding the edge of the card back towards the fold of the card.

Step 2: Turn the Multipurpose Platform to Tab 2 and place it onto the Big Shot with a Cutting Pad on it. Unfold the card body you previously scored. Place a Label Framelits (the 3rd largest works well) centered over the fold on the card front. Place the top Cutting Pad only over half of the Label Framelit so the Cutting Pad edge is lined up with the fold line on the center of the card front. Carefully hold the sandwich in place and run through the Big Shot. Only the part of the Framelit with the Cutting Pad over it will be cut.

Step 3: Fold the card and decorate the Framelits section with other Framelits layers and stamped images. When the card is opened the image flips to the inside of the card. Use Texture Impressions Embossing Folders to add embossing to cut Framelits for even more detail and interest!

Have fun experimenting with this great Z-Fold Flip card using the Framelits Hearts Collection, too!

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week we were given a sketch to inspire our creations…

    IMG_5700

I'm not sure why, but for several weeks I've had this color combo floating around in my head.  I don't usually put this kind of color combo   2012 Create Challenges-014together but I was thinking Night of Navy and Wisteria Wonder would look fun together. Then I though I should put something for a pop of color and decided So Saffron would be a great choice. I'm excited to see the colors come together the way I hoped they would in my head!!

When I saw the sketch for this week I immediatly though it was great for a note card with a Monogram – so that's what I created!

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This time we had a color challenge…

    IMG_5684

The Colors for this Challenge, Poppy Parade, So Saffron, and Basic Gray usually make me think of masculine cards but I though it would be fun to play with them as a bright spring type card.  2012 Create Challenges-013

I used the Aviary stamp set to create one Bird hanging in  his home in the sky and stamped another bird stopping by for a visit. I think it came out fun – a nice … just checking in card for a friend!

I used the Cupcake Punch to put a few subtle clouds in the sky and I used the Adorning Accents Edgelit Die to cut a trim for the bottom of the card. At first my plan was to use the normal scallops at the bottom but when I saw the "scrap" upside down part of the scallops I though it fit very well with the look of the cage so I used it instead!
