  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week we had a color challenge…

    IMG_5951

The Colors for this Challenge are Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, and 2012 Create Challenges-020 Early Espresso. These colors are so bright and happy, perfect for a little Just For Fun note, so that's what I created. I used the Sweets for the Sweet stamp set and a simple card layout. The three Pinwheels spin which adds to the FUN!

I used just a touch of Early Espresso at the side to pull your eye over to the edge and the Greeting at the bottom of the card and I finished the card off with a little ribbon wrapped around the edge!.

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week we were given a sketch to inspire our creations…

    IMG_5924

I've been fighting a spring cold the past week or so and the creativity has not been 2012 Create Challenges-019flowing so It was nice to jump into this week's sketch challenge and get the juices flowerin again! Button Buddies is one of my favorite sets so I decided to play with it and fall back on my favorite color combo (As you can obviously tell from my blog design – lol) of Cherry Cobbler, Wisteria Wonder, and Pink Pirouette. I added a touch of Basic Black this time and I like the pop it adds to the combo!

I LOVE the way the card came out – although the photograph isn't really doing the card much justice (sorry about that – I kept getting a wonky effect with my stripes on the greeting and the sparkle just doesn't want to shine in the photo) I added some sparkle to the card with the Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink. I put some dots in the scallops and then sparkled up the faint background flowers and randomly sparkled the Cherry Cobbler flower petals. So it looks a little grainy in the photo but imagine a subtle shimmer on the flowers in real life! πŸ™‚

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This time we had a color challenge…

    IMG_5907

The Colors for this Challenge are Pool Party, Poppy Parade, and Basic Black. I used a bit2012 Create Challenges-018 of old and a bit of new in this card. Poppy Parade is one of the five In Colors that will be retiring at the end of this month. The Carry On Stamp Set is a sneak peek from the new catalog. It's one of the Hostess sets that will be avaliable starting June 1st!

It's so fun getting a peek at stamp sets early as a Demonstrator! When I saw the Carry On set it went straight to the must have list! It's filled with other fun carry on phrases like Eat a Cupcake or Shop On. I can see a lot of fun cards and small decor items made with this set!

There is some fun history behind the Keep Calm and Carry On posters! If you're not familar with where the greeting came from take a minute and read about it here.

A Decorative trim, some ribbon and a button finished the card off.

Don't forget to visit the Create with Connie and Mary website to get more inspiration from the other designers! And the new Create With Connie and Mary New 2012 Catalog Edition will be starting soon – so be sure to follow that blog for details!

  • Hi Stampers,

I'm here with this week's Create with Connie and Mary Challenge. This week we were given a sketch to inspire our creations…

    IMG_5902

I have been wanting to make a lollipop card with the Sweets for the Sweet stamp set 2012 Create Challenges-017 since I got it and when I saw the sketch for this challenge I KNEW it was the perfect card layout for a fun sweet card! I used Pool Party for the card base with a little Pool Party Designer Series Paper for the background.

The Lollipop is stamped and punched out then attached to a lillipop stick with Glue Dots. I used a small Zip top bag to cover the lollipop. I simply cut  the bottom zip part away.

I used more Glue Dots to attach the finished Lollippop to the card front.

Don't forget to visit the Create with Connie and Mary website to get more inspiration from the other designers!

I hope you're inspired to play along with us this week! We love to see what you come up with!

     Q&A

Q: Recently I saw a cute card with a small, patterned paper envelope on the front. How do you make those?

    Paper Envelope Sample

A: Envelopes in a variety of sizes have become all the rage since the Diagonal Plate for the Simply Scored Scoring Tool was introduced recently. The Diagonal Plate makes creating envelopes a breeze – no more templates to trace and cut by hand! Hooray! Plus, envelopes are a great way to show off our beautiful double-sided Designer Series Paper without feeling guilty that we are covering up one of the patterns! While the Diagonal Plate comes with instructions and measurements to make four popular envelope sizes, one of my favorites is the small envelope for love notes!

    Here’s how you can make the 3-1/8” x 3-1/8” envelopes to hold 3” x 3” love notes:

    Envelope Pattern
Step 1: Cut a 5” x 5” piece of Designer Series Paper or card stock. Place the Diagonal Plate on the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Place the paper on the Diagonal Plate. Score the first side at 2-1/4”. Rotate the paper 1/4 turn or 90 degrees. Score at 2-1/4” again. Repeat until all four sides are scored.

Step 2: Fold and crease all four score lines. Use a Bone Folder for crisp folds. Use Paper Snips or Square Punch to cut out the triangular scored sections.

Step 3: Fold in two side flaps to create the sides of the mini envelope. Add SNAIL, Sticky Strip, or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the very edge of the bottom flap. Fold that flap up over the side flaps and adhere. The envelope is now complete!

You can add the envelope to the front of a card or a scrapbook page. Or use it to hand deliver a special little love note. You can use adhesive to close the top flap, tuck the flap inside the envelope, or use a button or brad and a bit of Baker’s Twine to create a fastener.

Have fun discovering all of the fun envelopes and envelope projects you can create with the Diagonal Plate!

  • Hi Stampers,

    IMG_5826
This morning (Saturday April 28) was the Great American Food Blogger Bake Sale for Share our Strength and Foodbloggerbakesale-thumb-270x228even though I'm not a "Food Blogger" per say – Mom loves to bake and I love to make things pretty so of course we had to participate!

Two of my favorite bloggers, Stefani of Cupcake Project and Kimberly of Rhubarb and Honey cordinated the St. Louis bake sale again this year!

If you follow my Facebook page you've seen a few sneak peeks of the cookies as we were working on baking them.

I had some fabulous and fresh Meyer Lemons from my produce coop this week so we decided to bake Meyer Lemon Shortbread cookies – my first time trying them and it's a new FAVORITE cookie for me! We used this recipe from they Merry Gourmet. We also made up her Meyer Lemon glaze to ice the top of each cookie and hold the fondant on.

I cut the cookies out using the approx 3" scallop cutter from the  Scallop and Round Biscuit and Cookie Cutter Set

I LOVE this set of cookie cutters – it's perfect for the crafter in me who likes to work with graduated sizes of circles even when I'm baking! πŸ™‚

To Decorate the cookies I used the flower image from the Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps (See Them Online). Pressed the cookie stamp into fondant to get the image and then used the round side of the cookie cutter set to cut out the fondant. I placed the fondant on the cookies while the glaze was still wet.

    IMG_5835

and since I LOVE my glitter – I had to use a little pearl luster dust (A foodie's version of glitter) to add some sparkle to the center of the flowers.

Next I made up a label for each cookie using My Digital Studio, cut the label out using the Framelits Labels die and attached it as a topper to a cello bag with a cookie inside. (All those products are avaliable in my Stampin' Up! Store) Repeat this several times and you have a box full of cookies to take to the bake sale!

    IMG_5805

We also made some breads for the bake sale – but since I've rambled on much longer than normal πŸ™‚ – I'll come back another day to share those with you!!

P.S. if you want to see some of my favorite tools to use when I'm baking (or rather decorating Mom's baking) check out my Sweet Pressed Cookies Inspiration Board on Pinterest.
