• Want to make the holidays really special? Then plan to make your gifts this year. Making gifts allows you to give unique and personal gifts with a handmade touch. "It's the thought that counts" or so the saying goes. And it's never more true than when the gift is homemade. Why? Because you can make it special and just for the recipient. And while you are making it, guess what you're doing? Thinking about the person that you are making it for! Need some ideas of what you could make? Try some of these:

    • a box of hand stamped cards
    • a scrapbook ready for pictures
    • a finished scrapbook (great for grandparents!)
    • journals & notebooks
    • personalized stationery
    • customized office supplies (folders, paper clips, notepads, etc.)
    • a calendar
    • a stamped scarf
    • decorated photo frame (with or without a hand stamped insert)
    • an ornament

  • Hi Chocolate Lovers

Yesterday I shared pictures from our Christmas Card Class Hot Chocolate Bar and I promised more info on the Mixie Sticks I made to flavor the Hot Chocolate

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi1

I saw the idea for these Mixie Sticks on Tradewind Tiaras and I immediately added them to my must have on the Hot Chocolate Bar list! The Mixie sticks are made by filling Paper Straws with flavored powders that you can poor into the Hot Chocolate to customize the flavors. The choices are endless but I decided to go with

    • White Chocolate Raspberry – we used Dove Chocolate Discoveries Mix to fill these straws
    • Espresso – Simply mix Espresso Powder with a little superfine sugar
    • Peanut Butter – We Used PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter mixed with just a little sugar so it didn't stick In the straws.
    • Chocolate Malt – Very Easy – Chocolate Malt Powder

Here's a quick little mini tutorial on putting the Mixie Sticks together

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi2

    Start with a Paper Straw

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi3

Flatten the end of the straw.

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi4

Place a Mini Glue Dot on the end and roll the end up, pushing down on the glue dot so it adheres well.

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi5

Add another Mini Glue Dot to the end of the straw and roll a second time.

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi6

Insert the straw into the Paper Crimper and crimp a few times to hold everything together.

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi7

Fill your straws. You can use a small funnel but I found it went much faster simply to spoon the filling into the straws, just letting the extra fall back into the bowl.

    111112_0733_HowtoMakeMi8

Fold the tops of the Mixi Sticks down the same way you did the bottoms – I left the Mini Glue Dots off the tops so they are easy to unroll and poor into the Chocolate – but if you want a better seal use the glue dots and crimper on the tops as well!

I used a different color of straw for each flavor so it was easy to know the difference!

ETA: I've had a lot of questions about where I got my paper straws. Here's a few of my favorite sources for paper straws

  • Hi Stampers,

Last weekend was my annual Christmas Card Class – always my favorite event every year – and this year was one of the best ever!!! We wanted to have fun with the refreshments served at the class this year so we decided to keep our tradition of serving Christmas Cookies but add a Hot Chocolate Bar into the mix and it was a BIG hit!! You may have seen some of the pictures if you follow me on Facebook…

Here's a few peeks at the fun table set up and waiting for everyone to get there! We had the table full of fun mix in and toppers – I made up Mixie Sticks so they could customize the flavors of their Hot Chocolate (more about those tomorrow) and then I filled bowls and shakers with all kinds of neat things to add to the chocolate!

    111112_0733_AHotChocola1

I used My Digital Studio to make up some cute signs for the food and project tables…

    111112_0733_AHotChocola2

Made some labels for all the fun toppings and mix ins and pulled everything together with coordinating Stampin' Up! Ribbon!!! I LOVE that all the SU colors and Ribbons coordinate making it super easy to mix and match with fabulous results!! My hands down favorite new add in for Hot Chocolate was the Candied Orange Zest we made up – I love Chocolate Oranges and adding a few pieces of the Orange Zest into the cup w/the Hot Chocolate was like one Wonderful Rich Cup of Chocolate Orange!!!

    111112_0733_AHotChocola3

Add a little Designer Series Paper to the outside of the Whip Cream Cans so they match as well (You I know I have Issues J ) and you have one FABULOUS looking table!

The marshmallows were homemade of because I had put a little Stampin' Up! touch to them as well I used a Scallop Circle cookie cutter to cut the marshmallows out – perfect for all the paper crafter lovers who know EVERYTHING is better in scallops! J

    111112_0733_AHotChocola4

BIG THANKS going out to all my wonderful stampers who joined us at the Christmas Card Class and made the evening SO MUCH fun!!! I'm already looking forward to the next big event!!! (My 10 year anniversary as a SU Demo is coming up next spring and I'm hoping to celebrate in style!)

  • Hi Stampers,

At my last stamp camp we made a cute Sunflower note card and during the class a few of us though it would be fun to make a poinsettia out of the flower – so of course I had to come home and play around…

    110812_0133_APoinsettia1

I love it!! I used Cherry Cobbler and Gumball Green and I LOVE that it's pretty enough to be kept as an ornament on the Christmas Tree!

    110812_0133_APoinsettia2

I added a small hole at the top of the flower and some bakers twine to make it a card instead of a tag like our Sunflower was.

  • Hi Stampers,

This year I'm planning a fun theme for my Create, Ink! Stampers' Holiday Party. We're going to have a Favorite Things Gift Exchange. If you're not familar with the concept – basically each person buys 5 identical items that are one of their favorite things, wrap them up, and bring them to the party. At the party we'll draw names to exchange the gifts!!

Our party is at the begining of December and I wanted to get invited out in the mail so they had time to shop – so out they went last week.

    IMG_7136
There is not a lot of stamping on the card – I designed the greeting and printed it on Whisper White card stock. Then I die cut it and stamped a little Holly to give it that Christmas Feel. I used the "Brown Paper Packages" line from the Favorite Things song on the card and kept to that theme for the invite. Kraft card stock with Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine tied around it.

Download the Favorite Things Printable to create your own (Click Below)

    Favorite Things Fall Colors

I LOVE that it looks like a box all tied up with a label stuck to it!

And of course I wanted to carry the Baker's Twine onto the envelopes so I used the Baker's Twine for My Digital Studio and added it to the top of the envelopes when I was printing them out.

    IMG_7153
Everyone is very excited about the party and I'm looking forward to a fun nigiht with my stampin' team.

Here's a few of the supplies I used to create this card
